Dr Ilana Feain (GAICD) is a physicist, entrepreneur, and deep-tech commercialisation specialist with a career spanning astrophysics, medical physics, and space technologies. With a passion for turning world-class research into real-world impact, Dr Feain works with organisations to unlock the commercial potential of deep-tech innovations in space, sensing, and beyond. She founded Big Science Industry Engagement Services to bridge the gap between research and industry in the commercialisation of breakthrough technologies.
With a PhD in astrophysics from the University of Sydney, Ilana has held leadership roles in major scientific and commercial ventures. She was the first project scientist for the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) at CSIRO, before moving into medical physics and co-founding Leo Cancer Care, a pioneering medical technology company. Returning to CSIRO, she spearheaded the creation of Quasar Satellite Technologies, an Australian deep-tech venture in phased-array communications.
Ilana has received multiple prestigious awards over her career to date, including the In'Augural L’Oréal Australia For Women in Science Prize, the CSIRO Ruby Payne-Scott Fellowship, and the CSIRO Chairman’s Medal (ASKAP Team).
